Taking Care of Business – Bachman Turner Overdrive
Dec and I have been friends for a few years now and the amount of gigs we’ve been to together would be well into the 30s. But through these gigs we’ve established a couple of catch phrases we like to shout at bands. Now, this one followed a script from The Simpsons
*Bachman Turner Overdrive are playing on stage*
Homer: “No new shit! Play Taking Care Of Business!”
*BTO start playing Taking Care of Business*
Homer: “Get to the Working Overtime part!”
So sure enough, almost every gig we’ve been to recently has resulted in one of us shouting “Play Taking Care of Business!” at the performing band.
These days, Taking Care of Business has gone to a new level. Inspired by Cosmo Kramer on Seinfeld (seen here) the acronym TCB has entered our everyday vernacular. The beauty of TCB is that it can mean anything. While the song talks about the working life, we’ve taken it to mean whatever we want it to. A few admiring fans have already jumped on the TCB bandwagon, but hopefully soon we’ll be able to use it to strangers without being asked to explain it.
This is probably the clearest song that reminds me of someone but this one will probably stay in my mind the longest. Cheers Dec.
